Approximately two years ago I have embarked on the self-growth journey.
In the beginning it was more a subconscious than a conscious decision.
I have been decluttering, minimizing, working on my character…
Then half a year ago, it became a conscious process.
I have been analyzing my behavior patterns, my physical surroundings, my relationships, the things I spend most of my time on and many other aspects of my life.
Soon I have realized that keeping up with my habits and current lifestyle won’t bring me any closer to the life I desire. So it was very simple.
There were only two ways it could go: 1. I take control of my life or 2. I let things just “happen” to me.
I AM NOT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME,
I AM WHAT I CHOOSE TO BECOME.
I chose option number one. (Duuh.)
If you chose the same or think to take charge of your current situation,
then I want to present you the 3 things I wish I knew before embarking on the
1. YOU DON’T SEE ENOUGH PROGRESS
When you begin to improve yourself, your habits, your surrounding, whatever it is, you also begin to see progress. Very fast. You get fitter, stop wasting time on your phone, eat clean.
But then it comes. The void. You seem to be stuck. No progress, nothing. Even though you’re trying.
Do you know this saying “Good things take time.” ? It’s the same here. All the big changes come with time. Look back at yourself. Did all the major shifts in your character happen over night? I didn’t think so.
So give it time and you will have a great surprise looking back.
2. YOU QUESTION EVERYTHING
This one is closely related to feeling no progress. Sometimes you begin to question things. Does this method even work? Am I improving my health? Do I look slimmer? Is it all worth it?
Take a moment and contemplate. Why do you feel that way? Is it because you rush and want everything to happen right now? Or are you just not happy with the things that you are doing? Maybe its time to change-up your habits, to freshen up your routines? Adjust yourself, go with the flow of life.
Try a new morning routine (the miracle morning for example?), prepare a new smoothie for breakfast. Make it fun for you.
3. THE JOURNEY IS THE GOAL
The title says it all.
Yes it is important to set goals, to know what you want to achieve in life.
BUT – you have to enjoy the journey. As I said before make things fun.
Take yourself for a walk, or make your home workout in the park. And be in the moment. Realize that all you ever have is the now. I will repeat this again because it’s so crucial. All you ever have is the now. There is no yesterday and no tomorrow. Think about it. And that’s the reason why you should enjoy every moment of the ride. Because you will never know when it will be over.
So all I want to say is: appreciate what you have done so far. Don’t drive yourself mad. Be present. Let yourself feel the negative AND the positive. Be here and now.
Did you struggle with any of the points above? Or do you have anything to add to the list? Let me know ❤
